CONCOURSE SYSTEMS

REAL TIME SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR INDUSTRY

COMPANY PROFILE

Concourse was founded in 1985 and from that time has specialised in the design and development of real-time software systems for use in monitoring and control, automated handling and data capture applications.

Our specific areas of expertise are in the development of embedded software running on dedicated micro-processors, control software running on PLCs and HMIs and legacy system support and re-development.

Our systems are used in a wide range of application areas including oil and gas, brewing, food, textiles, computer manufacturing, communications and fibre optics and we have supplied systems to the health service, the MOD and to local authorities.

With projects ranging in size from a few weeks to several man years and working on a wide range of hardware and software platforms we have supplied systems that involve test and measurement, data capture, automated warehousing, conveying and storage, machine monitoring, SCADA and RF tagging.

We also provide consultancy services to assist in the design and development of projects and products where a high level of technical software expertise is required or where analysis and development of unsupported legacy systems is needed.

Our aim is to provide each of our customers with a system or service that fully meets their requirement and which continues to be fully supported following installation and handover.

CONTACT US

With 30 years of experience in the industry Concourse have worked with many hardware and software platforms that are no longer considered current technology and have regularly been commissioned to analyse and in many cases work with, enhance or replace outdated systems.

Suppliers and developers may change leaving systems unsupported and we have been involved in the re-vitalisation of a range of systems for monitoring, conveying and  measuring that has involved replacement of specialist hardware, re-development of communications links and porting and enhancement of software.

Concourse has worked with hardware designers to develop embedded systems from its beginnings and has used a wide range of microprocessors including  :-

  • Motorola 68000, 6811, 6809, 6502

  • Mitsubishi M16C

  • Microchip PIC 12  16  18  24

  • Hitachi H8

  • Intel 80386, 8085, 8051

  • Zilog Z8000, Z80

  • Thompson ST6

Our own micro-kernel has allowed us to develop complex and time critical applications running on low end devices with demanding memory constraints and applications have included protocol conversion and multiplexing, analogue control for test and measurement, MIDI sequence control, data encryption and data logging. Development languages include C and assembler.

Concourse has worked closely with a number of mechanical engineering partners to install complex automated handling systems developing PLC and host control software for these projects.

Our principle experience is with PLC and HMI equipment from Omron and Mitsubishi which we have used in applications to provide wide area control of audio switching, alarm monitoring and annunciation, chemical dispensing and application and a range of machine control functions.

Concourse has worked extensively with LF, HF and UHF tagging systems for applications using fixed and hand held equipment. Typical applications have been for container tracking, product identification, DoD labelling, security and verification.
